Adaptive technologies
The library has available an adaptive reader machine which magnifies
text to make reading easier for the sight impaired patron. The reader,
located on the upper floor in the library, is for use by any patron
who would benefit from an enlarged type size.

Homebound Delivery
of Library Materials
Homebound delivery of library materials is a volunteer program
to deliver library materials to Westchester residents who are physically
unable to come to the Library. Readers may select specific titles
and authors OR library staff may select materials based on the individual
patron's interests or need. Library volunteers will deliver the
materials to the patron’s home. This outreach service, while
limited to Westchester residents, is available to patrons with an
extended temporary disability or with a long-term disability. Call

Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
(LBPH)
Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is available
from Voices
of Vision. This talking book center is for use by those individuals
with a temporary or permanent disability that prevents them from
reading conventional printed materials because of a visual, physical
or reading disability. This service center can be contacted by phone

Translators for programs
The Library can arrange for sign-language translators for library programs to assist patrons who are hearing impaired. Please call, visit or write the
library to discuss at least 5 days prior to a scheduled program.
Foreign language translators for text or web pages can be accessed
via the Internet. Some websites offering this service are www.freetranslation.com,
www.systransoft.com, and
babelfish.yahoo.com
Handicapped accessible building and meeting room
The Westchester Public Library is handicapped accessible. There
are parking places conveniently located for handicapped patrons.
The front door electronically opens for ease of entrance and departure,
and the Library’s elevator provides access to all four Library
floors for anyone who has difficulty with stairs.
Library Resources Available:
Books and Periodicals
Large print editions of books and Reader’s Digest
magazine are available for patrons who have a problem reading the
regular size print. These materials are available at the Library
or can be ordered from other libraries in the Metropolitan
Library System.
The Library has over 1,000 abridged and unabridged book titles
available in the library on audiocassettes and CD. These recordings
can be used on any standard cassette or CD player.
Videos and DVDs
Closed caption videos are shelved with the general video collection. |
